A horticultural dream: in the botanical garden near the airport you can admire 2000 different plants on a total area of 2,000 hectares, in one of the biggest greenhouses of Europe. The concept of the botanical amusement park is just as informative as it is entertaining: Plants of all latitudes were cultivated according to their climactic zone, while the natural habitat was complemented with the corresponding animals.
On a large lake the “Island of times past” takes visitors back to the flora and fauna of the past, exhibiting living plant fossils such as cycads, biloba plants and maidenhair trees. Right next to them you see craters from primitive times that are planted with many multicoloured flowers. Animal sounds are broadcast through hidden loudspeakers. In the second park section there are parrots and other exotic birds, and at the foot of a waterfall there are about 100 turtles. Finally, the wadi replicates what a Sahara oasis looks like. A small zoo and a nature trail round up the offerings of the “Green Diamond”, as the climate zone greenhouse is proudly called. Entrance fee: 6 euros for adults, 4,50 euros for children
