If you still believe that Smørrebrød is “just” a sandwich, then you really should get around to trying one! You can’t even see the bread because it disappears under all the fillings.

There’s an inventor for everything, and in this case it was the Davidsen family in 1888. And they soon became one of the Danish people’s favourite meals. There are now 240 different types on offer in Ida Davidsen’s restaurant, for example with roast beef, herring, potatoes or chicken. Beware, however, that you pay for the name Davidsen. You can get great Smørrebrød for cheaper elesewhere, but those don’t have a side serving of history...
