Since Bangkok’s Indian community has settled in the area around the Pahurat Road in 1898, “Little India” grows steadily – and will soon bump on the blurry borders of China Town. That means that you can stroll through Asia in half an hour: from China over a small strip of Thailand to India – and at the end of the tour the exciting Pahurat Market awaits you!
On weekdays the booths bend under the load of different textiles and fabrics. English Tweed is exposed for sale as well as the finest – and less fine – Indian silk, Saris and man’s shirts. The sellers are pleasantly reserved, shake their heads smilingly to and fro (especially when bargaining) and for the most part they speak English very well. This is a spot of revelation for anyone who loves scarves, joss sticks, Bollywood-posters, spicy chicken masala and small Hindu god-images.
