New York has three major airports. International flights land at John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in Queens, about 25 km outside of Midtown Manhattan, or at Newark (New Jersey; 26km away). La Guardia Airport (LGA) is located in the north-west, 13 km from Midtown.
There are many ways to get into Manhattan from JFK International. Only those with little luggage should embark on the combined bus-underground journey.
The NY Airport Service Express Bus operates from 5 am to 11.05 pm every 15 to 30 minutes, stopping at Port Authority Bus Terminal, Grand Central Terminal and Pennsylvania Station.
Tickets are 15$ and the journey takes about 55 minutes.
Particularly suited for larger groups or lots of luggage is the 24/7 door-to-door service of Go Airlink Shuttle between JFK and Manhattan from Battery Park to 227th Street. Simply pre-register on the website for a group or private ride.
Those who prefer a very exclusive trip can take a stretch limousine to Downtown Manhattan. For reservations go to www.nyclimousine.com – The journey from JFK to Manhattan costs about 150$. A comfy way with true New York feel is a ride in a yellow cab. A “dispatcher” assigns the cabs to the passengers.
