The brain behind the Film Biz Prop Shop is Eva Radke, who has been working in the film business for 15 years. In order to save the film props from ending in the dumpster after shooting, she established her business Film Biz Recycling.
First stationed in Long Island, the most diverse remains of TV-series, motion pictures, theater productions or music videos now end up in her Prop Shop in Gowanus/Brooklyn. The selection of the shop, which measures more than 1.000 square meters, ranges from a gold-framed glitter mirror used on “America’s Next Top Model” (30 Dollars) to a conference table from the 70s-movies (700 Dollars).
With the Film Biz Prop Shop Radke pursues a sustainable approach. In addition to selling, she also charters her collected props to the film industry and to event organizers, or she donates furniture to facilities for people in need. Pieces that cannot at all be used anymore are properly recycled. Radke also defines her shop as a Think Tank and a meeting-place of the community in Gowanus.
