In the Gothic halls of the Episcopal Church made of brown brick it's not church songs but cash that rings since March 2011. On three floors – designed by James Manour with white walls and black and white chessboard floor – New Yorkers and tourists shop designer clothes by Edwing D'Angelo, cosmetics by Thérapie and jewellery by Tina Tang. The gourmet market with sinful treats (catch word sandwiches by Jezalin's) attracts the crowd for a snack, and the subsidiary of the J. Sisters offers Brazilian bikini waxing sessions.
The church which was erected in the mid-19th century was a disco hotspot in the 1980ies under the aegis of Peter Gatien. In 1983 Andy Warhol threw the opening party of the club. Immoral goings-on and high percentage drinks under the flickering strobe light were on the nightly agenda and the Odyssey House used the building on the corner of 20th Street and 6th Avenue for their drug rehabilitation programme.
