The Standard – designed by Todd Schliemann and the architect's office Ennead – overtowers the small Meatpacking District. The stilted building resembles an opened book and is situated above the High Line Park. On the ground we find a beer garden with ale-benches and waitresses wearing dirndls, on the roof top in the 18th floor we find a lounge (Boom Boom Room) and the bar Le Bain with an artificial lawn and guests in fancy and freaky outfits.
Between these two hotspots, there are 337 rooms (starting from 295 dollar per night). These have clear lines, are coloured in muted grey, brown and white, and paned with large windows that reach from the floor up to the ceiling and can be opened – a rarity in New York.
Guests in the hotel should be “libertine”: the bathrooms and toilets of the bar are located next to the glass facade. Especially for strollers in the subjacent High Line Park that's a “must-see”.
Since its opening in 2009, the hotel has raked in awards. Most recent, namely last year, it was honoured by the American Institute of Architects of the state New York.
