Insider know: Mark Jacobs is a master of self-dramatisation. His name is fashion. His new bookstore on Bleecker Street is called BookMarc – what else!
You can buy red pencils by Marc, bags with his name, postcards, “Hotel Marc” key chains made of leather, Marc by Marc Jacobs accessories, notebooks with titles like “Book Book Book Marc”, “Moby's Dick (LOL)” or “The Gay Gatsby”. The “authors”: Marbert Ruffy or Duff Jacobs – anagrams of the shop owners' names: Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy, Jacob's business partner.
Apart from the self-dramatisation in the Bleecker Street (altogether there are four MJ shops in this street), books are not a minor point. The focus of the book offer lies on – what else could we have expected – the beautiful things and people of this world: in the shelves we find Kate Moss by Mario Testino, the series of books about music albums 33 1/3 and Oprah Winfrey's biography.
Sometimes the stars from the books can also be seen live at BookMarc – in March 2011 photographer Tim Hailand and singer Rufus Wainwright came for a signing session of their illustrated book “One Day in the Life of Rufus Wainwright”.
