Wolfgang Voigt is a techno god – ask anyone and they’ll agree. He’s the man behind classics such as Trans Atlantic Excess, Rosenkranz, New Jack City and R.E.S.P.E.C.T, as well as the labels “Structure”, “Profan”, “Freiland” and “Kompakt”.

The most telling influence comes from minimal techno, while he also experiments with reggae dub and ambient music. Since the mid 90s the DJ has released over 100 records under 20 different pseudonyms. So if you go shopping at Kompakt Store, note that Wolfgang Voigt’s name need not necessarily be printed for him to have been involved. And make sure you’ve done your homework before you arrive: anyone asking for DJ Bobo is likely to be mobbed – those in the know are serious about their music in these parts.
