The former trading house refers to itself as a “gem at the heart of Cologne”. The description is accurate as Das kleine Stapelhäuschen is brimming with nostalgia and guests feel bound to its history. Low ceilings, plenty of wood, creaky stairs and Cologne’s oldest lift in the Turmzimmer make this hotel a particularly special experience.
Add to that a few fine drops of wine in the hotel’s own restaurant and a fantastic view of the Rhein. But be sure to avoid tossing the remains of your dinner over your shoulder – that would be overdoing it somewhat! Luxury is not the order of the day at Stapelhäuschen, but who needs to be pampered 24 hours a day anyway?
The hotel is so authentic that only the straw filled pillows are missing to complete a stranded damsel scene. And, of course, a knight riding a white horse. Double room from EUR 64 per night.
