The ‘Telemichel’ – a name affectionately given to the tower by the locals – certainly holds its own against the original Michel, as both a landmark and, until a few years ago, a viewpoint.
The Heinrich-Hertz-Turm stands at just shy of 280 metres and has therefore left every other structure in the city in its shadow since 1968. It was once possible to take a lift up to the lookout deck and restaurant, however today the tower can only be admired from below: no new operator has been found since the extensive reconstruction works carried out in 2001.
