Who invented it?
Towards the end of the nineties the city experienced a revival thanks to changes in building legislation. Many trendy restaurants, bars and clubs mushroomed, taking away the prejudiced image of Zurich as boring provincial town. The nickname “too rich” is another popular abusive term for the town. In fact, the enviers couldn’t be more wrong, at least as far as the outer appearance is concerned. The people from Zurich, namely, don’t usually show off their riches easily. Refined understatement is the motto of the town, owing its wealth to the Swiss banking secrecy a great deal. Famous Zurich banker Hans J. Bär revealed in his memoirs that he used to drive two identical limousines so that the neighbours thought he had only one. The people from Zurich are decent and don’t brag, but they would have every reason for it: Not only do they live at one of the most expensive spots in the world, they also have laid the foundation stone for a new form of art. Their labels sell well all over the world, and their chocolate is still the best – because they invented it!
