This is where the city's most famous son was born, on August 28th, 1749 “to the tick at twelve o'clock”, and this is where he spent his childhood and youth, along with his parents and his sister Cornelia. A must-see for every visitor to Frankfurt.
The Urfaust, The Sorrows of Young Werther and Iphigenia in Tauris – they were all written in these rooms, this is where the young writer worked on his oeuvre. With a little bit of imagination you can feel like a writer yourself... With its antique furniture and the old pictures on the walls, the bourgeois house of late baroque style gives an authentic and lively image of its time. The museum was renovated in the Goethe Year 1999 to make it more appealing to visitors. A tip for those who would like to relax after so many impressions: Next door the cosy restaurant “Dichtung und Wahrheit” (fact and fancy) invites you to a relaxed conclusion of the day.
