We are standing in Stockholm's city centre, right next to the subway station Hötorget. For approximately 130 years various goods have been sold and haggled over in the Hötorgshallen – bargaining for the best price has a long tradition at this place. If you're looking for meat, fish, vegetables or sausage products you need to go to the basement, the flower and fruit market are to be found outdoors.
Speaking of tradition: the Hötorgshallen have been truthful to their roots but the stalls and products are however very international. Apart from Turkish kebab the 31 stands also sell Swedish herring and Himalayan tea and there are lots of cafés. Gourmets will find anything what they are yearning for. And that will not change after the refurbishment which is about to start at the end of the year and lasts until 2012. Afterwards there will be an even greater selection of merchants on two floors. An advice: begin to search for a stand with cow cheese and get to know the cheese producers Daisy or Ebba – at least on the photo!
