Go to Slussen - a major communication hub in central Stockholm. "Sluss" means "lock" as this is a connection between the sea and lake Mälaren. It was a centre already in medevial times when the "gold of the Baltic" - the herring - was landed here and sold at the nearby marketplace. Today you can enjoy "stekt strömming" (fried herring) at the street stall. Historical, delicious, lowcost, folkloristic and nice surroundings. Stockholm City Museum is next door.... You will see the fried herring stand in the lower right corner.
