In Vienna’s eighth district, four gastronomes have redesigned an old restaurant from top to bottom, ensuring the elegant ambience and lounge area in modern design provide a feel-good atmosphere – complemented by the attentive service of Nicole Kronabitter & Andreas Stolarski. No less impressive are the two top chefs, Gerry Schuster and Florian Reinthaler, who employ the very best crossover style to bring regional and seasonal products to the table interpreted in a cosmopolitan style.
In the Josefstadt neighbourhood – whose streets are already home to more than a few fine restaurants – dishes are served with truly international aspirations. The standard here is truly high – as it should be, with the name of the restaurant being ‘higH’. These ambitions for the cuisine include a duet of Alpine salmon and tuna with sour cream tartlets, or marinated fillet steak with risotto with porcini mushrooms.
Not so high, however, are the prices, which meet guests’ sophisticated demands for service and enjoyment without losing all grip on reality. As a result, the conservative Josefstadt public are once again feeling open to the world – without having lost their age-old traditions. Globetrotters amongst you, however, will find a real piece of Austrian quality at an international level on the menu.
